Pulp Fiction: It's a Literary Genre

Pulp fiction: it's not just a movie. Pulp fiction is as American a genre that can be found. It was fueled by capitalism, written by nobodies, and the art was drawn by even more nobodies. A genre for the people, by the people. Of course, being written in the 1920's and into the 40's, "people" meant "men". And these stories were for men. Publications filled front to back with adventure, violence, and sex, not necessarily in any order. What is unique about this genre however is the opportunity it provides to really see what the male psyche was like back in a time associated with puritanical conservatism.
